It’s a fact that people love video. Having video on your website is a proven way to boost rankings and keep people longer on your page. But do you know how to embed YouTube video on a website? I guess that’s the reason you are here. In this step-by-step tutorial I will show you exactly how to embed video on a WordPress website.

How To Embed YouTube Video On A Website

Why is video so important? Here are 3 reasons:

1. Most people are visual learners, which means that they prefer to consume the information watching rather than reading.

2. It’s  another way for visitors to consume content. This makes your website more user friendly and Google will rank your website higher

3. Video keeps people longer on your page, which leads to a lower bounce rate and therefore, better rankings.

Regardless of your niche, it is important to understand how to embed YouTube video on a website. It creates a better user experience, which leads to people coming back to your site.

The good thing is that you don’t even have to create your own videos. You can leverage already existing videos on YouTube. And yes, it is 100% legal if you follow my step-by-step process. In this post, I’m going to show you how to embed YouTube video in WordPress.

The Difference Between Linking to and Embedding a Video

Many people don’t know how to embed a video and that’s why they create external links to the particular video on YouTube. That’s fine, but there is one problem with linking directly to the video – it takes people away from your website. Embedding a YouTube video, not only looks more professional, but it also keeps visitors inside your website.

An embedded video is a part of your content. You are not sending people away. Your audience gets everything they need on your website. People stay for longer and Google sees that as a positive sign and ranks your content.

How To Embed YouTube Video On A Website In 3 Easy Steps

Step 1: Choose A Video You’d Like to Embed

The first step is to obviously have a video that you want to embed. There are almost 5 billion videos available on YouTube, so you have a lot to choose from. Just type in anything related to your blog post and choose a relevant video that you want to embed.

You can also embed your own YouTube videos. In fact, it’s a great idea to embed your own videos because you are creating backlinks to your YouTube channel, which helps with your rankings. But if you don’t have videos of your own, it’s totally fine. Just use what’s available on YouTube.

Once you find a video that you would like to embed, just click on the ”Share” button below the video. It will open a window that looks like this:

Step 2: Click on “Embed” And Copy Your Code

When you see “Embed”, this means that it’s okay to share the video without asking for permission. The great thing with YouTube is that almost all videos are free to share and embed on your website. If you can see the embed code, then it is 100% legal to embed the video.

Click on the ”Embed” button and a new window similar to the image below will open:

As you can see, there is a code on the upper right side. Just copy that code and paste it in your website as I will show you in the next step.

Step 3: Paste the Embed Code Into Your Website

The third and final step is to paste that code in your website. If you’re using WordPress’ Classic Editor, all you’ll have to do is to switch to text from the upper right corner and paste the code where you want the video to appear.

A bonus tip for you is to center the video. Just type in <center> before the code and </center> after the code as I shown in the image above.

If you’re using Gutenberg blocks, all you have to do is to create a block and add the HTML code there.

And you are done! Easy, right?

Final Thoughts

To summarize, let me repeat what I said in the beginning. People love video! It’s easier and more enjoyable to consume. It keeps people longer on your website, which leads to lower bounce rates and therefore, better rankings.

It’s best if you can create your own videos, because it establishes a stronger connection between you and your audience. But you can also embed YouTube videos that others have created as long as they have the embed option.
