How To Make Money Online as a student? – 12 Easy Ways to Earn Extra Cash

How to make money online as a student? This is the question that many young people ask themselves when entering university.

Being a student is not easy. University takes the majority of your time, so having a full time job will be very complicated.

Your parents are probably paying for the majority of your necessities, but as every student, you want to have money for going out with friends, buying clothes and having money for unexpected expenses.

If that’s the case, then making money on the internet is your best option.

In this article I will show you 13 ways on how to make money online as a student. Number 10,11 and 12 are my favorites and are ways that not many people know about.

I will start with the most obvious ones and as we go down the list the ways will get better and better. Let’s get started.

How To Make Money Online as a Student

1. Sell items online

Let’s start with the most obvious one, which is selling stuff on the internet. It can be your own stuff or items that you purchase and resell at a higher price. You can sell the items on pages like eBay.

No further explanation about this one. I am sure that you have heard about this way of making money 1000 times before.

2. Work as a freelancer

Another pretty obvious way to make money online is working as a freelancer. Fiverr is probably the most popular platform for freelancers. There are a bunch of offers that you can choose from.

If you’re good at graphic design you can create logos, banners and illustrations. If you understand SEO and e commerce, you can find a job in the digital marketing category. If you are interested in languages, you can become a tutor or translate texts.

I think you get the idea. There is something on Fiverr for everyone.

For all the gamers out there

Did you know that you can get paid to play your favorite games? You can offer your training services about tricks and strategies within the game. This is a pretty cool way of monetizing your gaming skills.

There are even people on Fiverr willing to pay you to play games with them. It may sound funny, but it is true. People who don’t have a lot of friends, are willing to pay someone to play with them.

3. Sell your notes online

How to make money online as a student is easy to discover thanks to online note selling websites.

Many kids decide to skip classes, but that does not obligate you to give away your notes for free. Converting your notes into cash is now possible! Just sign in for CourseHero and sell your notes there.

By the way this is 100% legal so you don’t have to be afraid of getting sued.

4. Sell your books

Selling used books, both online and offline, is a quick way of earning some extra cash as a student. You can go to any store in your city where they buy books by weight or you can contact other students who need the books for the upcoming year.

You can also sell your books online on platforms, such as BookFinder or Bookbyte.

5. Answer paid surveys

There are many companies out there looking for people to help them with marketing studies. For this purpose, they create surveys that people can answer to.

Answering paid surveys won’t make you rich, but it does not take much of your time and it is a good way of earning some extra cash.

6. Fill in captchas

What if I told you that you can get paid to do something that you are already doing each time you create a registration? I am talking about captchas. We have all filled in captchas, but most of us aren’t aware that they are called that way.

A captcha is the form that you fill in to verify that you are not a robot.

Filling in captchas is probably the fastest and easiest way of making quick money online. The website that I recommend is called 2Captcha. It won’t make you rich, but it does not require any special skills. Your only job is to put in a combination of letters and numbers and press ‘’okay’’.

It takes around 10 seconds to fill in a captcha, so the faster you work, the more money you will earn. If you spend 1-2 hours every day, you can probably earn 30 dollars a month. It’s not a lot, but it can cover some of your basic expenses.

7. Transcribe videos and audio files

Another simple way of making money online, is by transcribing videos and audio files. GoTranscript is a website that pays people to do exactly that.

The work is pretty straight forward. You listen to the audio and write what you hear. Working hours are flexible, so you can easily adjust them to your schedule.

8. Start a YouTube channel

People consume more and more video content every day. YouTube has become the second most popular search engine after Google. That must be telling you something.

Starting your own YouTube channel is a great way to make money online as a student and if you really take it seriously, you can make a living out of it.

Most of us are consumers, but it is time to become creators. You won’t make big money just by sitting all day and watching random videos. You need to add value to people by creating quality content and publishing it on the internet.

Most people think that ads are the only way of making money on YouTube, but in reality there are so many ways of monetizing a YouTube channel. You can do sponsored videos, become an influencer or do affiliate marketing on YouTube.

9. Publish an ebook

Before I even begin, I know what you are thinking and the answer is ‘’No, you don’t have to be a writer to create a book’’. Trust me, anyone can do it. I have done it and you can as well.

Amazon, the world’s largest online book store, allows us to publish kindle books for completely free. Whether you enjoy writing or not, you can do Kindle Publishing. You have two options. Write your own book or hire a ghostwriter to do that for you.

You can literally publish a book in less than a month. After you have marketed it successfully, it can generate passive income for years to come. How cool would it be to pay your bills from a single book.

For more information, check out my post about how to do Kindle Publishing.

10. Create logo designs

Every business needs a logo.

Go to Upwork and type ‘’logo’’ in the search bar. You will see a lot of job offers from people looking for a logo. Once you find an offer that you are interested in, contact the person for more information, such as what colors should the logo be, what the design should look like, and so on.

My tip for you is to give away the first logo for free. Most people send automated messages to the customer and in most cases they don’t get an answer back. But if you make personal contact with the customer and send him the first logo for free, it will definitely make a good first impression.

After you have been assigned for the job, you can go to the free website Canva and start creating the logo there. You don’t need to be a web designer to do that, nor do you need any special skills.

There are already premade templates on Canva that you can customize and create a professional looking logo for your customer.

You can also create the logo using GraphicSprings or LogoMaker.

After you are done with the logo, send it back to the customer and make the final adjustments according to the customer’s liking.

11. Become an evaluator

Being an evaluator is a pretty cool side hustle. You can literally make money while scrolling on Google. Don’t believe me? Keep reading.

You can become a social media evaluator or search engine evaluator, but what does that mean?

Let’s take the search engine evaluator as an example. Your job as a search engine evaluator includes checking on a given search term. Let’s say you get the keyword ‘’dog toys’’. You will need to open all results on the first page of Google and see whether they are related to the search term or not. If you see an article that is not connected to the search term, you need to report that.

When it comes to social media evaluators, you will be given a Facebook page or an Instagram account that you need to follow for a certain period of time. You need to see how fast it grows, what kind of posts it publishes, how people engage with the page, and so on.

You might be thinking, why would someone pay me to do that? The answer is that Google makes mistakes sometimes and they need a perspective from a real human being.

The website that you will be using to get paid is called Appen. Just click on ‘’find flexible jobs’’ and after that click on ‘’raters’’ and then ‘’apply’’.

12. Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate marketing is one of the best ways to make money online. It has helped millions of people quit 9 to 5 and reach financial freedom.

For those of you who don’t know what affiliate marketing is, it is basically the process of promoting someone else’s product and earning commissions for doing so.

Affiliate marketing does not require a huge upfront investment and it does not require any technical skills. It is the perfect source of passive income and is easy to learn.
