Wondering how to make money online from writing articles? Well, you have come to the right place.

In this article I will share 5 ideas on how to make money online from writing articles. The methods that I am about to share do not require previous experience, so whether you have a high school diploma, a college degree or neither of those, you will benefit from my tips.

Every online business begins with writing content. If you’re a great writer, why not use that skill to make some extra cash online or even earn a full-time income?

Some of the methods in this post can make you money almost immediately, and some of them require more time, but have the potential to replace your current job and generate passive income for years to come.

Tip number 5 is my favorite and the one that I recommend the most. If combined with tip number 4, only the sky’s the limit of how much you can earn. So read until the end if you want to find what it is.

Without further ado, let’s learn how to make money online from writing articles.

1. Work as a freelancer

Let’s start with the most obvious one – freelancing. You have probably already considered signing up for some of the biggest freelance platforms, such as Fiverr.

Fiverr is one of the top freelance platforms that connects producers with those who need a certain type of service.

As a freelancer you will be your own boss. You will determine how much and when you work.

But how to make money online writing as a freelancer?

There are many ways to make money writing as a freelancer, depending on what kind of writing you are good at.

You can write blog posts for online entrepreneurs who have a blog, but do not have time to write. You can even help them write an ebook or if you are good with copy, you can help them write their sales letters.

Only the sky’s the limit. Just go to Fiverr and explore the different job opportunities for writers.

2. Blog editor

Content marketing has increasingly been used by online entrepreneurs. More and more business owners want to be found naturally instead of bombarding people with ads and being spammy.

There are many ways to build a content marketing strategy, but creating a blog with valuable information is one of the best ways to start implementing this type of promotion in a business. This means that more and more online entrepreneurs are looking for writers to maintain their blog.

You can work independently or be hired by a company and work together with a team.

Writing a blog for somebody is a very popular way of making money online, but an even better option is to create your own blog. I will talk more about that later in this post, but for now let’s take a look at the third way on how to make money online from writing articles, which is…

3. Get Paid for Guest Blogging

Guest blogging is when you write your own article and publish it on someone else’s blog.

You can contact a blogger and ask him or her if you could write a blog post for them. If you can’t find a blogger, you can always search on Google ‘’guest posting’’ and join some of the most popular suggestions.

Once you find a blog that you want to work with, make sure to read the content and get an idea of their writing style. From there you can craft a pitch that’s more personal and chances of getting accepted increase.

Some blogs pay for traffic that your guest post generates and other sites pay for your writing only. Find something that suits your needs and desires.

4. Start a blog

If your goal is to make your writing skills profitable in the long term, the best option without a doubt is to create your own blog.

The previous examples that I covered involve working for somebody else, but by creating your own blog, you will be your own boss.

You will decide when, how much and what to write, without having to follow someone else’s guidelines. You will be able to write about what you really like and are passionate about. Writing about something that motivates you will definitely show in the quality of your work. In fact, it won’t feel like work at all, since you are waiting about something that you enjoy.

It is important to note that writing in your own blog may not be profitable in the short term, but it will surely pay off in the long term. Working for others can make you some money for the moment, but it will never provide you with the benefits that a blog can generate over time. How To Make Money Online From Writing Articles - start a blog

Creating a blog has never been as easy as it is today. You don’t have to know anything about coding or computer language. You can have your blog up and running in just a few minutes. At the end of this article, I will share the program that allowed me to start my first blog for FREE, but for now there is one more topic that needs to be discussed – monetization.

There are endless ways to monetize a blog, such as ads, sponsored posts, selling your own products, etc. But the number one monetization method that I recommend is…

5. Affiliate Marketing

A blog monetized with affiliate marketing will be your #1 way to make a living online.

For those of you who don’t know affiliate marketing is the process of promoting other people’s products and earning commissions for doing so.

You will be recommending products to your audience through so called affiliate links. These are links that you get from the company that you work with. They are unique to you and each time a sale is generated through your links, you will earn a percentage of the sale.

Let’s say that your blog is about coffee brewing and you write a blog post about how to choose the best coffee brewer. You will write a helpful post and link to different coffee brewers on Amazon. You will be given a special link from Amazon. Each time people click on your link and buy a product, you will make a commission.

It is as simple as that.

There are thousands of people searching for different topics online. Your blog can be about anything and you will link to products that will benefit your visitors.

Affiliate marketing is not about selling. It’s about recommending products.

Final thoughts: How To Make Money Online From Writing Articles

There are a lot of opportunities to make money online from writing articles. The most obvious one is to become a freelancer and write for somebody else. This is a good option, but not the best in my opinion. Even though you determine your own working schedule, you are still trading time for money. If you stopped writing, your income would stop as well.

Your second option is to become a blog editor. This is similar to working as a freelancer. You are still trading your time for money and you are working for somebody else. It’s kind of like you are employed online to keep someone else’s blog attractive.

Another thing that you could do is publish guest posts on somebody else’s blog. This is a better option, since it is more passive. If you managed to monetize the guest post well, you could earn passive income from it on a monthly basis. But gusset posting isn’t the best option either in my opinion, since you don’t own the blog and have no control over it.

A much better option is to start your own blog. It will be completely yours and you can publish whatever you want, whenever you want and in whichever style you want. When writing for somebody else you have to write according to the preferences of somebody else. Owning a blog gives you much more freedom and flexibility.

Now that we have come to the conclusion that starting a blog is your best option, it is time to find a way to monetize it. Your best way of monetizing a blog is through affiliate marketing. You can write articles on any topic that you like and recommend products in your niche. Every time people click on your link and buy, you will earn commissions.

It’s like killing THREE birds with one stone.

  • You will make money from your passion for writing
  • You have the freedom to write about anything you want, such as a hobby or something you enjoy
  • You will be making money by recommending products, that you don’t even have to own or create

  4. Hi Delyana,

This is a really informative and insightful article. I have already started a blog, but after reading point 5 affiliate marketing, I now know how I can make some money out of it. I have a leadership blog, so I will look for leadership products that allow affiliate marketers to sell them for commissions. This is an amazing idea and I can’t believe I have only just seen this now.

Thank you for sharing and I’ll let you know how I get on with the affiliate marketing.

Well done. May you have great success with your endeavor.

    Best regards, Joanie

    • Thank you so much Joanie. I agree with you. Affiliate marketing provides a freedom like no other of the methods that I mentioned. If combined with a blog, affiliate marketing can be your best source of income and it can even earn a full-time passive income, allowing you the freedom to focus on what’s most important to you.

  7. These are all great ideas, but I have to agree with you that my favorites are affiliate marketing and having my own blog. This is strong combination that can be scaled over time to any degree that you desire. Thanks for these helpful insights. All the Best.

  8. Thanks for writing this informative post. I learned a few things from you today. I didn’t know you could make money from being a guest blogger. That’s a great idea. Thanks for giving it to me.
I have a question about your number 2 idea. Blog editor.
You talk about writing other people’s blog posts for them, wouldn’t that be called a copy writer, instead of a blog editor? I thought an editor is someone who actually edits your work to make sure there’s not mistakes and the grammar is good. Am I wrong?
    Thanks, Lynne

    • Great question, Lynne. Actually a copywriter is someone who writes a company’s copy, such as emails, landing pages, sales letters, etc. A copywriter can write a blog post too, but the main job of a copywriter is to write content that converts. A blog editor is more of a person who manages the blog, such as content creation and answering comments. But a blog editor can also edit your work and make sure that there are no mistakes, as you say.

I am sorry if I confused you. I hope it’s clear now. I you have any further questions, please let me know and I will be more than happy to answer you 🙂
