This is exactly what I am going to share with you in this article. Number 7 has the biggest potential to make you passive income, so read until the end if you want to find out what it is.

Without further ado let’s get started.

TOP 7 Ways To Make Money Online As A Teen

1. Digitize Photo Albums

This is something that we don’t hear so often, but it is really simple to sell to other people. Family photo albums are sentimental items to most people and that is why it is a great way to make money. Imagine that your house burned out (God forbid) and all of your family photos turned into ashes. You can always make more money, but you can never get those family photos back.

The good of digitizing photos is that you can do it no matter how old you are. A lot of people, including myself, would be more than happy to pay for that service. It’s not hard to do. You just need a scanner, connected to your computer. After you are done digitizing the photos, you just send them to the family through a cloud or a USB.

2. Proofreading And Editing

If you are excellent at spotting grammatical errors, this is the perfect position for you. No one wants to sound stupid and commit grammatical errors. Many companies are willing to pay you for proofreading their work even as a teen. It can be anything, such as email, sales letter or even proofreading a whole book/ebook.

Upwork is a great place to look for proofreading jobs as a teen.

3. Contact Local Businesses

This method works wonders. All you have to do is to visit a local business and offer to create social profiles for them.

Many local businesses do well, but would do even better if more people knew about them. What a better way to do that than social media?

You will be surprised to know how many adults don’t know how to create social profiles or manage them. Here you have a huge advantage as a teen. A lot of business owners don’t have the time or skills to manage a blog, Instagram account or a Facebook page.

You can directly contact a local business and offer your services. Say that you can create a Facebook page and upload content for them. Tell them about the benefits that they will receive and how it can grow their business. Something that you say is that although they are local businesses, nowadays it is necessary to have exposure on social networks to achieve more customers and / or sales.

If you do your job well, they are most likely to agree and start paying you.

4. Start A YouTube Channel

Probably one of the most popular ways to make money as a teen is starting a YouTube channel. It doesn’t cost you any money and you can make videos around anything you like.

You don’t even need to have an expensive camera. A smartphone camera works fine. You don’t need to be an expert. Just share your experiences and knowledge with people who may benefit from it.

It is true that there is a lot of competition nowadays, but that shouldn’t stop you from starting your YouTube channel. See what others are doing and think how you can create even better content and differentiate yourself from the rest.

The number one reason that stops people from starting a YouTube channel is because they are afraid of speaking in front of a camera. This is something completely normal and here are 3 tips to help you overcome that fear.

3 Steps To Help You Overcome The Fear Of Speaking In Front Of A Camera

1. Choose something you are passionate about.

Have you noticed that some people seem to be introverts, but when they start talking about a subject that they are really passionate about, it just seems like they become a different person?

There is just something about passion that makes all of your fears go away. So start making videos about something you are truly passionate about. It can be anything. Chances are that there are millions other people sharing the same interests as you and will be willing to watch your videos.

2. Imagine that you are speaking to a close friend

Instead of thinking about all the people watching your videos, imagine that there is only one person that you are talking to. Even better, imagine you are talking to a close friend. You wouldn’t be shy talking to your best friend, right?

Other than that, it will make your videos more personal and people will connect better with you,

3. Just do it!

No matter how many tips I give you, if you don’t open your camera and start filming videos, you will never improve. Experiment and try different things. See what feels most comfortable and what your audience likes the most and start improving on that.

Your first video is most likely to suck, but that doesn’t matter. You will get better with time and practice so just DO IT!

5. Edit Videos For YouTubers

If you don’t want to make YouTube videos, but are interested in computers and editing, this is one of the best ways to make money online as a teen.

No matter how old you are, as long as you have the skills, you can become a video editor for YouTubers. This is not something that you can learn overnight, but it is definitely learnable. It will take some time to build this skill. You will have to learn video editing, videography, cameras, and so on, but once you learn it – you can make huge money out of it.

There are thousands of YouTubers out there and many of them don’t know how or simply don’t have the time to edit their videos. In fact, the top YouTubers Actually don’t edit their own videos. They Outsource that work to somebody else.

Something really interesting is that a lot of YouTubers who live in America outsource their video editing to people in Europe. Why? Because they are taking advantage of the time difference. That way the video can be edited during the time the YouTuber sleeps.

6. Start A Podcast

If you like to talk but don’t want to be on camera, starting a podcast can be a great way to make money online as a teen. One way to monetize a podcast is to do sponsored episodes. Companies will pay you for running their ads on your podcast. Of course, it will take time to build an audience, but once you have people who are willing to listen to what you have to say, more and more sponsors will start contacting you.

Here are some ideas for your podcast: sports, romance, family relationships, friends, games, fun activities to do in your free time, etc.

What’s the best way to monetize a blog?

There are a lot of ways to monetize a blog, but the one that I recommend the most is affiliate marketing. Affiliate marketing is simply the process of recommending products and earning commissions for doing so.

The best thing about affiliate marketing is that you don’t have to create your own products. You can partner with companies and leverage their products. The company will give you a link and each time someone buys the product through that link, you will make money.

  1. Hello. Some of the suggestions you have given are just great. There are too many teens ( and young adults ) out there that just don’t know what to do with their time. They don’t want to go to college or study further ( which is fine ), but they still need to do something. Allowing people to make something for themselves especially while they are still young, and not be reliant on others as well as putting all that screen time to actual “work ” is just great in my opinion. Thank you for the great tips. All the best.

    • Thank you for your comment. I agree with you that teens spend so much time in front of screens. That’s why I wrote this article, to help them find legitimate ways to make money online. There are a lot of ways to turn that screen time into money and I hope my post reaches more and more young people.

  2. 7 ways to make money online as a teen is a great guide for teenagers, and you can never start your online business too soon. If you begin as a teenager while still in school by the time you graduate you already will be earning income and have your own online business established.

    Great guide for teenagers

    • That’s right Jeff. I wish I had seen a post like that when I was in high school. I would have started immediately, but later is better than never. So even if you are reading this and are not a teen, I encourage you to try something new. It is never too late to start an online business. In fact, it has never been so simple as it is today. 3. Thanks for the tips Delyana. I want to start a YouTube channel but nerves have stopped me before. I love your tips about following a passion and how that can overcome introversion. I love what you’ve explained about starting a blog too and I’m checking out that link to your ultimate guide about that.

  4. Hi Delyana,

Some great ideas here on how to make money online (as a teen or otherwise).

There’s a couple of ways on your list that I like in particular.

Contacting local businesses to create social profiles is a great idea. I think we’re all are aware of just how important having an online social presence is for any business nowadays. However, many small businesses especially have neither the manpower nor the inclination to get this started, although I’m sure they’d love too.

I also agree with your idea about starting a blog and I see you have a fantastic tutorial available to help out with this. I think it makes a lot of sense to start a blog, typically write about something that really interests you, and as you’ve shown there are various ways to monetize this.

    Thanks for a great read.

    • Thank you so much for your comment and I am glad that you liked those two ideas. As you say it is very important for any local business to have social presence. You don’t have to be an expert to manage social media accounts, so a teenager (or anyone with basic understanding of how social media works) could easily do that.

A blog monetized with affiliate marketing is my number one recommendation, though. It has the potential of earning a full-time PASSIVE income if you follow the right training. If you are interested, check out my FREE Guide for more information on how to get started 🙂

  5. I completely agree with you. I can relate to Step 3. I used to be terrified of speaking on camera but I’ve done quite a few videos now. Sometimes you just have to face your fears and go for it. Having a passion for what you do makes all the difference. Thank you for sharing so much helpful information.

    • I am happy to hear that, Peggy. Thanks for your comment and congratulations on your first videos. It’s really just about starting and seeing what works for you and your audience.

  6. Many great ideas here for me to share with friends and our teenage family members. I appreciate your research on this as you have provided much valuable information that will open the minds of people to ways to increase their income. All the Best.

    • Happy to hear that I can help someone. The teenagers nowadays have so much opportunities now compared to the old days. That’s why I decided to write this post about ways to make money as a teen. I hope more and more young people read it and understand that there are better was to spend their time than sitting in front of their devices all day.
